History of the Highland Charter for Climate, Nature & Health

The eagle eyed among you may spot that this is not the first incarnation of the Highland Charter for Climate, Nature and Health. In 2022 the Highland Adapts Climate Advocates group collaboratively designed the first Highland Climate Charter which launched during the Highland Climate Festival. The aim of the Highland Climate Charter was to invite organisations and individuals throughout Highland Region to commit to a series of principles which encouraged a climate ready Highland.

The original Highland Climate Charter gained a widespread following amongst community groups and individuals however on reflection of its impact in 2024 felt it could encompass a greater element of considering nature and health alongside climate. Hence a partnership was formed of Highlands & Islands Climate Hub, Highland Adapts, Green Health Partnership and Highland Environment Forum to relook at the Charter and give it both its own home, presence and use our collective ambitions to create a larger impact.

The new Highland Charter for Climate, Nature & Health retains the ethos of the original charter but now has its own home here on this website and through the partnership of organisations we can encourage that impact to flow from the newly redesigned charter.
